This article explains how to automatically collect the balance of an invoice either in full or through instalments.

Sometimes you might have an invoice in a state where you have set up an initial instalment schedule, but have then cancelled some of it's future payments. In this situation the invoice will be unable to fully reconcile.

To rectify this you can either write-off the balance (i.e. the customer is not likely to pay you) or in this example, instruct GoCardless to collect the remaining balance of the invoice.

Prerequisites

  1. Make sure your account is GoCardless enabled.

Step 1. Find the invoice

Navigate to the invoices overview page and use the filter to search for the relevant invoice.

Alternatively you can simply type the invoice number into the main search box in the top right search field.

Step 2. Automatically collect the remaining balance

You may have an invoice where you have cancelled some of it's future payments. An example might be when your customer has asked you to change the payment instalment schedule or amounts.

After these payments have been automatically removed you will have an option to Collect payment to automatically collect the outstanding balance of the invoice.

Click on the "Collect payment" option under the more button.

Step 3. Decide how the balance is to be collected

On the next screen you have two options:

a) Collect the balance in full

b) Collect the balance in instalments

Select how the remaining balance to be automatically collected from your customer.

a) Collect balance in full

b) Collect balance in instalments
