Converting custom fields to consent fields

How to convert your existing custom fields to consent fields, updating the previously provided answers as needed.

Written by Josh Burke

Before the consent fields feature existed the primary way to collect information like photo/video permission or first-aid consent was via a regular custom field.

Consent fields have the added benefit of getting flagged up on student names in class registers, as well as a few other places around membermeister.

Consent field Limit

You can only have three consent fields at any one time. For this reason, we highly recommend only converting custom fields for information that is most relevant during in-class scenarios.

Navigate to custom field settings

  1. Click your name in the top right corner and choose Account Settings.

  2. Scroll down to the Custom and consent fields panel.

  3. Click Edit fields.

Converting a custom field to a consent field

  1. In the Custom fields list, click on the three dots on the field you want to convert.

  2. Click on Convert to consent field.

  3. As consent fields can only have Yes or No answers, you might need to review and update the values you already have saved. If so, use the Current value to carefully determine what to pick from the New value dropdown. If all of the values in your custom field are already Yes or No, skip to step 5.

  4. Click Update students.

  5. Use the dropdown to select which icon you want to be displayed when a student has not given consent.

  6. Click Convert custom field to consent field to convert the field.

Consents on class registers

Now that the custom field has successfully been converted to a consent field, an icon will appear next to a student name in a few places throughout membermeister. The icon will appear if consent has not been given (e.g. if No was selected). The most useful place this can be seen is on class registers.

Useful Tips

  • 3 consent field limit. Use your consent fields only for the information you will be most likely to need during classes.

  • Converting back to a custom field is not possible without contacting support, so try to decide on all the consent fields you need before converting any. If you do need to convert any fields back to normal custom fields then just get in touch with us and we'll get it resolved for you.
